A very valuable meeting today with Darren Braine, one of Natural England's senior advisors, regarding maintenance and legal responsibilities on the proposed England Coast Path (also referred to as the Coastal Trail).
We took Mr. Braine to a variety of sites along the Essex seawalls, to show that whilst Natural England percieve this proposal as merely a designated path around the English Coast, it is in fact mainly on top of sea defences... which in Essex especially, are predominantly made of soft clay walls, that are particularly susceptible to damage through over-use.
Many issues were pointed out, not least the liabilities, to various parties, that may arise if the Coast Path is implemented in it's current form.
